The US is synonymous with great music. To the great music, there are excellent bands that have made their name in the local music scene and abroad. Listing the top music bands in the US cannot be a mean task by any proportions. The list below is not in any way exhaustive but gives a few of the top music bands in the US music scene.
1. Boyz II Men
Boyz II Men is one of the most successful bands in the US music scene. The band was formed in 1988 in Philadelphia. Other than music, they also run a charity known as Boyz II Men House. They are famous for their emotional ballads and acapella harmonies. The band initially featured Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, Michael McCary, and Shawn Stockman. In 2003, Michael McCary left the band because of health problems. The other three continue to perform to this date. This year (2017), Boyz II Men released an album Under ‘The Streetlight’.
2. Imagine Dragons
Imagine Dragons is a rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. It brings together Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee and Daniel Platzman. They first gained international exposure when ‘Radioactive’ a single in their 2012 debut album won a Grammy award. Their second studio album, Smoke + Mirrors released in 2015 topped the charts in the USA, Canada and the UK for quite some time. The band recently released their third studio album known as Evolve.
3. The Decemberists
The Decemberists from Portland, Oregon, are an American Indie rock band consisting of Collin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, John Moen and Nate Query. They are the number one band of those who love folk-pop music. Their recent album, “What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World by The Capitol Records is quite a masterpiece. The Decemberists are also known for amazing audience involvement during their live performance.
The band was formed in 1969 in Fort Payne, Alabama. The band was founded by three cousins Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, and Jeff Cook.
They are a country and Southern rock band. Blending country music, Southern rock and elements of pop and gospel music greatly contributed to their appeal to a wide demographic. With two Grammys and over 73 million records sold, they are one of the most successful music bands of all time. They are also credited with making country music popular in the mainstream.
The band disbanded in 2003 after a farewell tour but reunited in 2010. Since 2010, they have been performing.
5. The Flaming Lips
The band was formed in Oklahoma in 1983 by Wayne Coyne, Mark Coyne, Michael Ivins, Dave Kosaka and Richard English. Mark Cogne later left the band. Their major breakthrough was in 1999 with the release of ‘The Soft Bulletin’. They have won 3 Grammy Awards two of which are under Best Rock Instrumental Performance. On January 13, 2017, The Flaming Lips released, Oczy Mlody, their 14th album. What has made them a darling of many fans is their ability to blend folk rock, hip-hop beats, 1960s pop and Detroit techno. Cogne lends the band’s songs an amazing emotional power you cannot experience in any other band.
